Day #3 of AlexBeadon.com
#feelgoodblogging challenge
Create a Tutorial
So I came across Alex Beadon and her Feel Good Blogging Challenge - which challenges you to blog for 7 days straight. It so happens that this began on October 14th (my birthday - YAY - by the way!), and I am a tad bit behind and will need to make-up the last 2 days, but I'm super thrilled and really want to make this happen. Blogging is something I've wanted to get into for a while now - so why not. Its a new year for me, another year older, and another year for me to really take on something I haven't done before (Daily Motivation right there *wink*).
Alex's Day #3 Challenge is = Blog a Tutorial
Now she gave the disclaimer that it didnt need to be directly to your target audience, and one day I seek to own my own business outside of entertainment that this tutorial won't necessarily pertain to ... I hope this can add value to those interested in entertainment and performing.
Or, bottom line - Who doesn't love some good makeup tricks and tutorials
So here it is!!!!
How To Do: Street - to - Stage Makeup In 10 Minutes
(or less!)
Being a performer for a living, I need to do my makeup sometimes very quickly and I've adopted some tricks that make the transition of normal "street" makeup to the character I portray while performing with Disney Live! fast and seemless.
This is me in street makeup (Pardon the semi-sleepy look as well). By the way, this whole tutorial and photos are done last minute as I am actually getting ready for shows earlier today!
I already have on foundation, and some mascara.
Next, is everything I will be using to achieve my Stage Makeup look for the particular character I portray. I have:
- MAC Foundation
- Urban Decay eye primer
- BEN NYE Plum Pink Lipstick
- BEN NYE White Eyeliner
- BEN NYE Medium Eyebrow Pencil
- BEN NYE Victorian Rose Blush, Cork and Toast Eyeshadow
- Revlon Colorstay Black Liquid Liner
- False Eyelashes
* You don't need these actual colors. They are just the specific colors needed for my character.
Start with the Eyes
The key here is to brighten and make the eyes look larger - like a cartoon.
- 1st - Fill in your brows with brow pencil. When approaching the outer half of your brow, keep the line going out rather than down. This will prevent the eye from looking closed - you want to think lifted up and back!
- 2nd - Prime your lid with the primer. I like to blend it down the inner corner of my eye.
- 3rd - Apply Toast (light color) shadow all over the lid - from brow to lashline AND down into the inner corner of the eye. Keep blending it under the eye if you have this same "almost white" color. Lighter color framing your T-Zone will brighten your face. Sometimes I bring the light color all the way to the creases of my nostrils to really brighten things up!
- 4th - Apply brown shadow into the crease starting from the outer corner and blend inward until your little heart desires.
TRICK #1: Paper card for the perfect cat eye
To get the perfect angle of brown shadow & NO brown falling below your eyes... Use a an index card, tissue folded in half, credit card, in this case - my hair pin card.
Brush the shadow from your outer corner out MORE (and blend, blend, blend...)
TRICK #2: Contour Your Nose
Dab your ring finger with some of the Cork (brown) shadow, and blend just along the sides of your nose's bone. Over your nostrils, keep the same width from your nose bone. This will make your nose look more narrow
- 5th - Line the eyes with black liquid liner. Do a thick line on top, with a wing. Lightly line the lower lashline with the liquid as well.
- 6th - Apply lashes!
TRICK #3: Push lashes up to achieve a more FLARED lash look
- 7th - White Liner!
TRICK #4: Cartoon Eyes with White
White Liner mimics an extension of your own whites of your eye. Thickly line the bottom water line into the inner corner of your eyes. I draw it even beyond my waterline on the inner corners to achieve SUPER WIDE EYED LOOK.
Eyes are DONE!! Beautiful
Face is very simple. At this point I just repowder everything and then dab on some of the blush starting from the apples of my cheeks and blending outward.
This is also the time to do contouring of the cheeks if you choose - but when's the last time you saw nice characters (such as a Princess) with chiseled cheekbones in an animated series?
Let's move on to Lips!
- 1st - Line your lips as normal, but line a little outside of your natural lip line ONLY ON THE TOP. This will give the illusion of a fuller upper lip.
- 2nd - Fill in with you lipstick staying in the lines.
and you are done missy!
Sorry I couldn't make this the most personable type of tutorial, I actually filmed this but chose to just use screenshots of the process since being crunched for time.
I REALLY HOPE THIS WAS HELPFUL
whether you're a performer yourself looking for new stage makeup tricks to a simple more-natural-gal that is looking for makeup application once in a blue moon and needs tips & tricks to ensure it looks its best. This really did only take my 10 minutes and I believe you can do it too!
Q: What kind of lashes do you use?
ReplyDeleteA: In this tutorial I was using the Katy Perry Pretty Kitty lashes. They are my favorite!!
I'm so happy that you comment on my blog. I find your great blog for this:) You take awesome photos. Your sidebar bio photo is very nice :) I think you need maybe some refresh your blog look, maybe change colors, size posts section definitely to better show off your excellent photos.
